NICU Get Together

Today Abigail and I went to a NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit) BBQ with a couple of the families we met at Abigails' 1st home...Central Dupage Hospital. It was so amazing to see all the babies and how much they have grown! I had to put a few pictures up right away to share! Thank you so much to Pete and Anna for hosting the BBQ!
Here is Abigail with Cally. Cally was born at 24 weeks-she came almost a week before Abigail but was not due until April. At one point she weighed less than a pound..that's right, 15 oz. She is such a strong little girl. You look at her now and wouldn't even know all the things she went through(but her parents will never forget)! She is such an amazing little girl..I know her and Abigail will be friends for a long time because they have a special bond. This is Abigail's 1st friend, but this is the 1st time they met because they couldn't meet in the hospital! Cally is going to be a big sister!!! We wish the best to Pete and Anna!
Here are Abigail and Luca. Sorry to all of Abigail's boyfriends, but this was her 1st! He gave Abigail her 1st Valentine's Day Dress. Luca was born mid-November but was due mid-February. At one point he weighed less than 2 lbs! He also had quite a fight in the NICU...but he's doing so great now! He is crawling around...and has LOTS of energy!!!!
Here are the 3 Muskateers together! Knowing how little Abigail was, it's crazy that she was the BIGGEST of the 3...her lowest weight was just under 3 lbs. She also did not have to have surgeries or a ventilator, which was such a blessing to us! Nevertheless, all three of these babies are quite amazing! (And let's not forget the parents who spent countless hours/days/and even months next to the babies incubators, doing whatever it took to help their babies and celebrating the smallest milestones...it is something that you would never wish on anyone.)
Today we discussed how grateful we all are to Central Dupage Hospital for all they did for our kids. Next April we will be walking with the March of Dimes in honor of these little peanuts (Luca and Cally's parents are actually ambassadors for the March of Dimes) and we hope you will join our team! More info. on that to come later.
